Berlin Calling: Impact Hub Exchange!

photo

Hi, I’m Debbie So – the Head of Partnerships at Impact Hub Islington.

I am driven by a lifelong international and entrepreneurial mindset, a combination of my background in urban design and experience working with start-ups & third sector organisations. I believe in learning through experiences and through close collaboration with others, and I’ve always challenged myself to explore scenarios that are new and different. That’s why I so delighted to participate in the Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs programme this summer.
When I applied, I was looking to be matched with a Host entrepreneur who is also passionate about social enterprises, alternative education methods, and engaging young people. On a personal level, I wanted to get insights in a new culture, to foster my language skills and to improve my communication ability with people that have a different cultural background.
My dreams came true when I found Nele Kapretz at Impact Hub Berlin!
Nele is one the co-founders of Impact Hub Berlin, and has been driving entrepreneurial projects in Berlin for over a decade. She has a strong professional background in organisation and management with a focus on sustainability, social entrepreneurship and youth. Nele holds a MSc in Sustainable Resource Management and has qualifications in design thinking, marketing, business modelling and events management. Being a native Berliner who has worked and studied in different countries, she also has a large professional interdisciplinary network.
How perfect was this match?

I’ll be shadowing Nele Kapretz over the next two months. I’ll be working on developing my own enterprise, Hub Youth Academy, which i founded in 2013 to provide pathways to real careers in social enterprise for young people 18-25. And of course, to support Nele Kapretz with her work at Impact Hub Berlin. I’m especially interested in learning about programme design and development, and to explore how other organisations have collaborated and scaled in the European social impact sector.
And bonus points… I’ll get to work out of the beautiful Impact Hub Berlin.

Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs

Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs is a cross-border exchange programme which gives new or aspiring entrepreneurs the chance to learn from experienced entrepreneurs running small businesses in other Participating Countries.
The exchange of experience takes place during a stay with the experienced entrepreneur, which helps the new entrepreneur acquire the skills needed to run a small firm. The host benefits from fresh perspectives on his/her business and gets the opportunities to cooperate with foreign partners or learn about new markets.
