City University London is delighted to announce the 2014 Masters in Innovation, Creativity and Leadership (MICL) Scholarship in partnership with the Design Council.
Inspired by the Design Council’s Active by Design campaign, applicants for the scholarship are invited to submit ideas to create places where healthier lives will flourish. This means encouraging greater levels of daily activity in buildings and public spaces through the use of good design, e.g. what changes could be made to the design of the University to encourage activity?
The winner of the competition will be awarded a full scholarship for the MICL at City. A limited number of bursaries, worth £3,500 each, may also be available to qualifying runners-up.
In addition, the winner will have the option to pursue their submitted ideas throughout the term of the course. If they so choose, they will be actively supported by City University London to turn their ideas into action.
Dr Sara Jones, Programme Director for the MICL says: “We’re delighted to be able to work with the Design Council again this year as part of our scholarship competition for the MICL at City and are particularly happy to be focussing on the excellent Active by Design campaign. We look forward to seeing ideas about the way in which buildings and spaces can encourage higher levels of activity – especially if they are ideas that we can apply here on our own campus!”
Beth Gardener, Head of Marketing and Communications for the Design Council says: “Partnering with City University on its MICL gives us a perfect opportunity to encourage innovative solutions to the issue of inactivity in the UK and beyond. Problems related to poor diets and sedentary lifestyles – such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease and dementia – affect millions each year. So we’re excited that creative thinkers and doers are joining our movement to get the nation Active by Design.”
