Feedback & Falafel: Food waste

Feedback & Falafel: Food waste

The Impact Hub community harbours an astonishing treasure of knowledge and skills. On Tuesdays, we invite Hub members as well as people outside our community to offer a glimpse into their world.

An estimated 30% of food grown globally gets wasted every year. That’s a vast amount of perfectly edible food needlessly going to waste. At the same time, the prevailing narrative around food security would have us believe there is not enough to go around for an ever-growing world population. Hubber Chris King, whose project Food Is… explores the issue of food waste, and those working to tackle it, is attempting to raise awareness about this fact and others, and inspire people to take action – no matter how small.

He has been photographing and gathering eyewitness stories from individuals and organisations working on the frontline to reduce avoidable food waste for the past 2.5 years, and is currently working on a series of short documentary films exploring and analysing key elements of the issue of food waste in the UK and Europe.

Chris will be sharing some insights from his work on the topic, and will invite you to brainstorm ways in which we can become active participants in building a world where food that might otherwise go to waste is redistributed effectively rather than wasted – both individually, as well as at a collective and systemic level. He’ll also float some ideas on how we could make Sexy Salad even sexier…

Order your falafel wrap (£3.50) at 12 noon, the event starts at 1pm.
