Feedback & Falafel: Public speaking series: The Power of the Pause

The Impact Hub community harbours an astonishing treasure of knowledge and skills. On Tuesdays, we invite Impact Hub members as well as people outside our community to offer a glimpse into their world. From community mapping to sales workshops or learning how to play the ukulele, each week opens a new door.

Ingrid Marsh joins us for a second public speaking session, this time revealing the secrets of the pause.

Public speaking is a contested territory filled with mixed emotions. Some love it, some hate it, and we’re all told from an early age that it’s a really important skill. But it isn’t a skill that comes with clear instructions that you can simply follow and ‘get it right’. Public speaking is all about practice – some even call it an art form.

What gets you hooked when listening to a great speaker? It’s almost always not just about what they say, but also how they say it. And a lot of it is to do with the dynamic and rhythm of a speech. In this session, we will look at the power of the pause by practising a wider vocal range including inflections, tones and rhythms in our voice that can transform a speech and keep an audience interested and engaged.

Hosts will take falafel orders at 12 noon and pick up delicious falafel wraps from the local chapel market for the start of the session. Join us for a colourful lunch of learning, laughter and tahini.

Order your falafel wrap (£3) at 12 noon, the event starts at 1pm.
